In the Community

Bridge House in Abingdon

Ensuring our residents remain an active part of their wider Abingdon community is extremely important to us, creating opportunities to form new friendships, nurture existing bonds and share skills and experiences.

With this in mind, we have a number of groups which provide valued opportunities to welcome people from our local community into our home to share time together, take part in projects which benefit our wider community and ultimately, have fun!

Friends of Bridge House

Our Friends of Bridge House group is formed of more than 60 local businesses, charities, organisations and volunteers who together have created a wonderful community movement.

As part of our Friends of Bridge House group, our residents and their local community take part in joint projects, spend meaningful time together and enjoy trips out to places of interest in and around Oxfordshire.

If you would like to join our group, please contact our Riverly Club and Lifestyles Manager, Chantelle on 01235 520 439 or email lifestyle@bridgehouseabingdon.co.uk.

Butterflies Memory Café

Held on the last Tuesday of every month from 11am to 12.30pm, our vibrant Butterflies Memory Café has become a haven for people in our local community who are supporting a loved one with memory loss.

The free community support group provides an opportunity for people living with memory loss to enjoy a variety of specialist and themed activities, run by our skilled team members, whilst carers and family members can enjoy time chatting and supporting each other in our beautiful, relaxed bistro.

If you are caring for a loved one experiencing memory loss and would like to join our welcoming and friendly group, please contact our Riverly Club and Lifestyles Manager, Chantelle on 01235 520 439 or email lifestyle@bridgehouseabingdon.co.uk.

Repair café

On the second Friday of every month from 2pm to 4pm, our library is transformed into our Repair Café where we repair, fix, mend and upcycle items using the skills of our residents, team members and people from our local community.

As well as repairing and upcycling a wide range of items and clothing belonging to residents, families and our community, some of our larger projects having included breathing new life into dolls houses to be sold for charity once restored and joining forces with our Friends of Bridge House member, One Planet Abingdon, to lovingly craft draught excluders from donated materials to gift to older people in our local community.

We’re always looking for new project ideas and help from our community members who have a particular talent for repairing and upcycling so please contact our Riverly Club and Lifestyles Manager, Chantelle on 01235 520 439 or email lifestyle@bridgehouseabingdon.co.uk if you would like to get involved.
