Mince pies, mulled wine and atmospheric music were in order as residents at Bridge House got into the festive spirit with their Christmas lights switch on.

Family members joined their loved ones and the team for the Christmas celebrations which brought residents, their family, friends and loved ones together for the festive event.

Santa himself switched on the lights at the home, which recently won two ‘Care Team’ Awards at both the Great British Care Awards and the National Care Awards 2023 and is rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Riverly Club and lifestyles manager, Chantelle Merritt, said: “There is nothing quite like our annual Christmas event and lights switch on.

“Seeing the amazement and smiles on everyone’s faces as the home was lit up so beautifully was the most heartwarming moment.

“Santa, his reindeer and the Christmas carols all contributed to this being the most wonderful occasion for our residents and their loved ones, as well as the community who we love to welcome into our home.

“The residents loved seeing Santa and stroking the reindeer. It was so enjoyable for them and to have their families in to celebrate with us too was really special.

“They all enjoyed seeing Bridge House lit up and it was a great way to wish everyone a merry Christmas.”

A team of elves worked to support the residents and reindeers, Snowflake and Cracker, were the stars of the show, bringing the magic of Christmas to the home.

Abingdon Operatic Society provided the entertainment and the Christmas stalls were manned by residents’ families and members of the Riverly Club, a revamped luxury club for the over 55s at the 71-bed care home, which provides high quality residential, nursing, dementia and palliative care.

Care home manager, Marta Leszko, added: “To be able to hold events like this for our residents is so special as it brings everyone together as a big Bridge House family.

“We were delighted to welcome everyone into our wonderful home and celebrate this magical time of year.

“It’s great to be able to share these moments together. It really connects us and it is lovely for the families to see how we love to spend this invaluable time together and create special memories for everyone.”
