Amelia Guard, a Care Assistant from Abingdon, has won a Heart of Gold Award at a ceremony at Bridge House Care Home in Abingdon today, Tuesday September 15th. Amelia has worked at Bridge House for 16 months.

The Awards seek to recognise employees for their dedication and commitment in providing high quality care and compassion to all the home’s residents.

June Maharaj, manager of Bridge House said: “Those who have been nominated do not just do their jobs, they consistently demonstrate compassion and dedication to make our residents lives better each and every day.

“Amelia fully deserves this very special recognition. We receive so many compliments about her from residents and their families. She is sensitive and caring and committed to every single individual need of the residents – she is a real asset to the home.  As an illustration of how she goes above and beyond – she organised, virtually single-handed, a fund raising dinner with dancing and entertainment, for the victims of the typhoon. Over 180 people, including Bridge House staff, residents and their families attended.  She raised over £1,500 – an extraordinary achievement”.

Amelia was presented with an etched glass plaque to commemorate her success and a Tiffany necklace by Alnur Dhanani, Chairman of Carebase, the company that owns Bridge House Care Home.   Nominations for the award came from residents and their relatives, co-workers, social workers and local health professionals.

Amelia said:  “This is so unexpected and I feel overwhelmed to be recognised in this way. Thank you to everyone – the residents and the team here make this job so special to me. We are all dedicated to giving the best quality care and I really value the support I get here at Bridge House. It’s such a happy home and a great place to work.”

Altogether there were 41 nominees for the award at Bridge House and all nominees received a Heart of Gold lapel pin.
