Bridge House says “No” to ‘Parvenue Pudding’!

Our residents, who love their puds, challenge the winning dessert in the National Platinum Pudding competition.

We are so passionate about our puddings here at Bridge House Care Home in Abingdon that we decided to put the national Jubilee Pudding to the test!

Our talented chefs Denis and Karl, together with local bakers Sarah Davy, Ellie Cundy, and Sarah Jones from ‘The Cake Lady of Oxfordshire’, whipped up ten puddings from a list of some of the nation’s favourites – and put them to the vote amongst residents and the care team.

“I am sure that the trifle, chosen as part of the national competition, is absolutely delicious. But we think the nation already has its firm favourites and no ‘parvenue pudding’ can take its place!”, says resident Doreen (aged 93).
After much deliberation, the lemon tart, made by Ellie Cundy was crowned as the official ‘Queen of the Puds’!
Our lifestyle manager, Chantelle Merritt, says: “We are a very ‘foodie home’ and we have lots of regular food-themed events such as pop-up restaurant nights and chef club – where residents can learn to cook food from different cultures.  So, the cake project has been right up our street! This has been such fun to do – and of course to eat! A big thank you to our wonderful bakers for their terrific contributions. It has been such a delight to see how the local community has supported this project.”
The winning dessert will be served at Bridge House’s Jubilee Street Party on 5th June 2022.
