Disney light parade illuminates the heart of Abingdon care home resident

Disney light parade brings joy to lifelong fan at Abingdon care home

A Disney-inspired light parade made the wish of an Abingdon care home resident come true for Christmas.

The parade was specially created by the team at Bridge House care home for lifelong Disney fan Rosemary Rayner.

It featured 25 of her favourite Disney characters, including Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Snow White and Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

Rosemary, whose love of Disney began as a child and has always dreamed of visiting Disney World, was overwhelmed by the event at the 71-bed home, which provides high quality residential, nursing, palliative and specialist dementia care.

“I was so surprised I couldn’t believe it!” she said  “It made me feel really special to know that so much effort went into something for me,” said 84-year-old Rosemary.

The dazzling parade took place inside the home and in the garden which was part of the Christmas light switch-on event at the Thames View home and had a soundtrack of “When You Wish Upon a Star” from Disney’s ‘Pinocchio’.

Children from the Little Bears toddler group joined the parade, and residents were treated to a performance by the Strawberry Fayre Majorettes.

“The evening was magical, and I couldn’t stop smiling,” added Rosemary.  “It was joyous and wonderful, not just for me but for everyone there that night.

“I loved how happy it made everyone, and the lights are continuing to make Bridge House shine and feel special.”

The home also unveiled a screen displaying the many wishes the care home has made come true for its residents.

Team members dressed up as famous Disney characters including Mickey Mouse, Snow White and Aladdin, while the parade brought together residents, their loved ones and the local community.

“We wanted to create a truly magical experience for Rosemary, who is always so happy and brightens up people’s days,” said Riverly club and lifestyle manager Chantelle.

“It was very special to see her face light up as her Disney dreams came to life. The parade was a wonderful way to bring the community together and showcase the incredible spirit of Bridge House.”

Care home manager Anita Radecka added: “This event shows our commitment to making every resident feel valued and cherished.

“Seeing the happiness it brought Rosemary and everyone involved is what makes what we do so rewarding.

“Our aim is always to create unforgettable moments, and this evening was certainly one of them.”
