The older community of Abingdon enjoyed a fantastic night of jazz as the town’s brand new members club for older people, The Riverly Club, celebrated its opening in style.

Members and guests were treated to a stunning performance by the award-winning Ben Holder Quartet, while dining on champagne and canapés.

Ben and the band served up a wonderful range of music, from well-known jazz standards to a delightful fusion of classic and contemporary.

The event was a perfect introduction to The Riverly Club, which provides a unique new destination for older people in Abingdon. Boasting state of the art facilities including a Spa, Wellbeing Room, Cinema, Café, Bar and Library, The Riverly Club will play host to a range of events and functions throughout the year aimed at active older people in Abingdon.

The Riverly Club lies adjacent to and is partnered with Bridge House, a stunning new care development offering the highest standard of residential, nursing and dementia care for up to 71 residents. Residents of Bridge House can access The Riverly Club facilities, creating excellent opportunities for socialising and building and maintaining friendships with older people in the wider community.

Maggie Griffith, Manager of The Riverly Club and Bridge House, said:

“What a wonderful way to celebrate our first event! Ben Holder and his fellow musicians were captivating and everyone had a fantastic time.

“We have some very exciting events lined up for the coming year; there really will be something for everyone. The Riverly Club is very much about providing the space and resource for older people to continue to live active, engaging and enjoyable lives. If the Jazz Night was anything to go by we’re going to have a lot of fun making that happen!
